Summer on the Shield 2016 Offerings


2016 Elementary School Summer Classes
(June 6 – June 24, 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM)

Cost: $450 if registered (with a deposit of $50 paid) by May 1. After this date, the price will increase to $500.

2016 Elementary Enrichment Classes
(June 27 – July 1)

Enrichment classes will run for one week (June 27 - July 1) and are 1 hour each. You may enroll for 1, 2, or all 3 classes. Classes are $60 each or $150 for all three.

Plenty of Planting (8:30 – 9:30 AM)
Would your students like to design a garden, make their own planter box to take home, and learn how to prepare and enrich soil to create the best environment for plants? In this fun, active, hands-on class, students will be introduced to the wonders of gardening and what is necessary to grow the biggest and best flowers, vegetables and shrubs.

Marvelous Machines (9:30 – 10:30 AM)
Are you interested in how simple machines work? Would you like to know what cars need to move forward? Can you build one that you power yourself and can race against your classmates? Which kite shape flies the highest? Come and learn in this fun and informative class.

Computers: The Next Step (10:30 – 11:30 AM)
Are you interested in perfecting your keyboarding skills? Would you like to learn how to find information on the computer? Do you know how to use the computer safely? Would you like to know where all the shortcuts are? Did you know that you could create art on the computer? Are you interesting in learning what it means to code? This class will show you how and more.

MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER CLASSES

These classes are open to non-VCS, incoming and current Village students. However, non-VCS students should check with their current school (prior to enrolling!) to ensure credits will transfer. The prices for all classes will increase by $50 after May 1. To qualify for current pricing, make sure your application is submitted and deposits paid by May 1.

Middle School Preparation
(June 6 – 24, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM)

Cost: Before May 1:$600; After May 1:$650

Middle School Preparation is a course designed for incoming 6th grade students or 7th grade students who are new to Village. This class is a great introduction to VCMS. Students will review key skills and concepts in each core subject, meet the adults who will help them navigate their middle school years, and learn skills for middle school success.

World History 6
(June 6 – July 1, 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM)

Cost: Before May 1: $950; After May 1: $1,000

World History 6 follows the curriculum offered during the school year, but condenses material into one month. It is only appropriate for students who wish to take both the 6th grade wheel elective and either Middle School Choir/Strings/or Beginning Band. Students will be assessed through tests/quizzes, class work, workbook activities/projects, and related activities/questions. During the summer, this course is very fast-paced and homework outside of class time will be expected.

World History 7
(June 6 – July 1, 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM)

Cost: Before May 1: $950; After May 1: $1000

In History 7, students will study world events during the Middle Ages. The major topics are feudalism in Europe, the history of Islam, West African society, imperial China, medieval Japan, early Americas, and the age of Renaissance and Reformation. Students will be assessed through tests/quizzes, class work, workbook activities/projects, and related activities/questions. During the summer, this course is very fast-paced and homework outside of class time will be expected. Successful completion of World History 7 during summer school will replace the course during the regular school year and will free another space in the student's 7th grade schedule.

US History 8
(June 6 – July 1, 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM)
Cost:
Before May 1: $950; After May 1: $1,000

This course explores the history of the United States from first colonies through industrialism. The major topics focus on the birth of the nation, American ideals, westward expansion, civil war, and the Progressive movement. A variety of tests, projects, and reading notes assess student understanding. During the summer, this course is very fast-paced and homework outside of class time will be expected. Successful completion of US History 8 during summer school will replace the course during the regular school year and will free another space in the student's 8th grade schedule.

Blended High School English – Credit Recovery
(June 6 – July 1, online/on campus blend)
Cost:
Before May 1: $475 per semester; After May 1: $500 per semester

Blended English (Credit Recovery) will be a combination of online coursework (Mon-Thurs) with one day on campus (Fri). First semester is from June 6 - June 17 (Blended English A). Second semester is from June 20 – July 1 (Blended English B). Blended English is intended to remediate coursework from English 9, 10, and 11. This course provides remedial instruction in literature, grammar, and composition and is not available for initial credit.

Class will meet on-campus Fridays only from 8:00AM - 2:30PM with a lunch break. Students will be responsible to complete online assignments independently.

Algebra 1 – Credit Recovery
(June 6 – July 1, 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM)
Cost:
Before May 1: $475 per semester; After May 1: $500 per semester

Algebra 1 is intended to remediate coursework from Algebra 1. This course provides remedial instruction in math and is not available for initial credit. First semester is from June 6 - June 17 (Algebra 1 A). Second semester is from June 20 – July 1 (Algebra 1 B).

Geometry – Credit Recovery
(June 6 – July 1, 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM)
Cost:
Before May 1: $475 per semester; After May 1: $500 per semester

This course provides remedial instruction in math and is not available for initial credit. First semester is from June 6 - June 17 (Algebra 1 A). Second semester is from June 20 – July 1 (Algebra 1 B).

Chemistry – Credit Recovery
(June 6 – July 1, 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM)

This course provides remedial instruction in chemistry and is not available for initial credit. First semester is from June 6 - June 17 (Chemistry A). Second semester is from June 20 – July 1 (Chemistry B).

Health
(June 6 – June 24, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM)

Health is a one semester course where students will study a variety of health-related issues in an exploration of whole health that integrates physical, mental, social, emotional, and spiritual components.

***Want to make it a full day? Check out our new "Intro to Concentrations" class to explore careers in each concentration! Intro to Concentrations is an afternoon class during the same weeks as Health. Receive an additional 10% off both Health and Intro to Concentrations if registered by May 1 for both courses.

Economics
(June 6 – June 24, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM)

Economics is a one semester course that introduces students to basic economic principles and practices and how economics affect world events and vice-versa. Students will examine the world’s different economic systems, free enterprise, supply and demand, elasticity, competition, market dynamics, economic policy, microeconomics, macroeconomics, price, labor, trade and banking.

Intro to Concentrations
(June 6 – June 24, 12:30 – 4:30 PM)

Explore Your Career Spark

"Intro to Concentrations" is a new summer afternoon camp program designed especially for elevating VCS freshmen and sophomores to explore six different potential career paths in fun, unique, and hands-on ways. Students will explore careers in business, science and health, law and order, and the arts. Hands-on experiences, field trips and guest speakers round out a fun and eye-opening three weeks this summer.

  • Launch a business, conduct a life-altering science experiment, argue before the Supreme Court, be an actor, and more!
  • Step into the lives of successful people in all walks of life!
  • Meet other incoming Freshmen and Sophomores!
  • Get ahead by experiencing Concentrations before you begin in the fall.

Summer School Child Care offers activities and supervision for your student in the hours before and after summer school classes (beginning at 6:30AM and ending at 6:30PM). Any student on-campus after the 30 minute pick-up window following summer school classes will automatically be moved to child care and parents will be charged. Students may not remain on campus unsupervised. Some optional field trips are offered to students in Summer School Child Care as well, see registration site for prices and details. Cost for students in summer school until noon - $130 per week. Cost for students in summer school until 2:30 - $80 per week.

Basketball Camp (Boys – Ages 7-14)
(Session 1: June 6-10 / Session 2: July 11-15; 9:00 AM 4:00 PM)
Cost: $225 (before June 1), $275 (after June 1), or $400 for both sessions

Develop your overall game with the 2012 State Champions - 2014 and 2015 CIF Champions. Campers will learn ball-handling, shooting, live-ball moves, practice habits, and skill improvement.

Emphasis will be placed on goal-setting, developing confidence, a winning attitude, and character-building. Awards, competition, and vdeo sessions every day.

Campers will be placed in age/skill-appropriate groups. Coaching staff with Division I experience to help your son take his game to the next level. Nike-Sponsored Basketball Program.

Soccer Camp (Coed – Grades 2-8)
(Session 1: June 20 – June 24 / Session 2: July 25 – July 29; 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM)

The VCS Soccer Camp is held on the beautiful campus of Village Christian School. Emphasis will be placed on teaching the basic techniques and skills that are essential to improve one’s soccer game. Players will be grouped according to age and ability. We design a friendly environment in which players can develop skills while having fun.

The VCS Soccer Camp boasts some of the best qualified and accomplished coaching staff the area has to offer. We take pride in the quality of the services we offer and the expertise of our trainers.

Football Camp (Boys – Grades 3-8)
(June 13 – June 17; 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM)

This camp provides your athlete with a week-long immersion into football for three hours daily. Each day is different and will focus on a variety of football skills and conditioning techniques. Special emphasis will also be placed on position-specific instruction with the help of our experienced coaches and superior player staff. This is a non-contact camp perfect for the pre-season. No matter what their level of football experience is, this program will improve your child’s ability to become a great competitor and have a successful football season.

Volleyball Camp (Girls – Grades 5-9)
(Session 1: June 13 – June 17 / Session 2: July 18 – July 22; 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM)

Expert instruction from top coaches and players on the skills and strategies necessary to enjoy the game of volleyball.

Baseball Hitting Academy (Boys – Grades 3-8)

The Village Christian Hitting Academy is a 1-week program designed to enhance the skills of the serious baseball player by specialized hitting instructors teaching the fundamental and practical techniques of the game. The workouts will consist of hitting sessions concentrating on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of each swing through still-ball and live pitch exercises. This camp can be used to build a base for fundamental baseball, or to maintain and refine your current level of play. MAXIMUM 30 PLAYERS. SPACE IS LIMITED.

Into the Woods Jr.
(June 1– June 26)

Come be a part of the Tony Award-winning musical, Into the Woods JR.! This musical features all of your favorite characters – Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk) and the Witch! This is open to all MS students (current 5th graders through current 8th graders) Auditions will be held May 17th and 18th. Rehearsals begin June 1st! All are welcome and all will be cast! You must register through Camp Brain BEFORE auditions. For more information regarding auditions and to sign-up for a time, visit the MS Office. Any questions? Musical Theater Camp
(June 13 – June 24, 12:00 – 5:00 PM)

This camp will have two weeks of instruction for students in acting, dance and voice, culminating in a final showcase performance at the end of the session. It will run from June 13th - June 24 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. If our student will be on-campus before or after those times, please additionally select before/after child care.

Dance Camps

The fundamentals of ballet, jazz, tap, and hip-hop will be taught, culminating in a final performance at the end of the session.

Art Class

Available for students entering grades 2-8. Students will explore their artistic talents through drawing, painting, and creative projects.

Drumline Camp

This year at Village we are having a kick-starter for our Middle School and High School Percussion classes. If you are interested in playing the marimba, xylophone, bells, snare drum, tenor drums, bass drums, or any percussion instrument in the fall, this is your opportunity to try it out! For those student already planning on enrolling in our classes next Fall, this summer session is highly encouraged.

Private Lessons
(As scheduled throughout the summer)
Cost:
5-Lesson Package – $160; 10-Lesson Package –$300

Students will benefit from one-on-one instruction from experienced and qualified Christian teachers who are all professionals. Students may choose a 5 lesson or 10 lesson package. Choose from voice, piano, drums, flute, violin, guitar, bass guitar, or dance. Once you have signed up for private lessons, a teacher will contact you to find a time that is mutually agreed upon for the lesson. Lessons are scheduled on a weekly basis.
