2017 Elementary School Summer Classes
(June 5 – June 23, 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM)

Cost: $450 if registered (with a deposit of $50 paid) by May 1. After this date, the price will increase to $500.

Kindergarten Preparation
Is your Future Crusader feeling a little nervous about coming to the big school? Do they need to polish a few skills before coming in the fall? Kindy prep is the class for them. They will be covering beginning Kindergarten skills and getting comfortable with a new learning environment in a smaller class setting. Activities include music, science experiments, hands on math, and beginning reading skills. Enrolling in this class can help your child feel more confident and successful on their first big day of school in August! See you there!

1st – 2nd Grade Preparation
Elementary summer school is a special opportunity for students to review and prepare for the coming school year, all while having fun. During grade specific Language Arts review, the focus is on reading comprehension, writing and vocabulary. Math review will include computation, problem solving and fluency. These classes help students to maintain and improve their proficiency levels. This review occurs within an exploration of world cultures. Students learn about the foods, geography, games, activities, art and language of a different country each week. Our summer school students can’t wait to arrive each day!

3rd – 5th Grade Preparation

4th and 5th Grade Math Mania
(July 11 - July 27, 9 AM to 11 AM; Tuesday and Thursday Only)

Cost: $120
Review of all things Math for incoming 4th and 5th grade students. Students will practice and improve their math fluency in all operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Word problems will become your friend and you will find yourself saying I AM good at Math by the end of this session.

2017 Elementary Enrichment Classes
(June 26 – June 30)

Enrichment classes will run for one week (June 26 - June 30) and are 1 hour each. You may enroll for 1, 2, or all 3 classes. Classes are $60 each or $150 for all three.

Fun with Fossils (8:30 am to 9:30 am)
Do you wonder how archeologists know where to dig? How do they identify the bones they find? How do you set up a dig? Can you make your own fossil? Can we practice the same techniques the real scientists use? Come and find out in our exciting Fun with Fossils class.

Make it Move (9:30 am to 10:30 am):
Would you like to know how machines work? Could you create a chain reaction? Do you know what pulleys and levers are for? Do you like to design, build, be challenged and experiment? Then this is the class for you!

Genius Hour (10:30 am to 11:30 am)
Do you enjoy exercising your brain? Do you like challenges, puzzles, and figuring out how things work? Are you the next Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, or Isaac Newton? Come for the Genius Hour and see what you can invent, create, dismantle and remake.

MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER CLASSES

These classes are open to non-VCS, incoming and current Village students. However, non-VCS students should check with their current school (prior to enrolling!) to ensure credits will transfer. The prices for all classes will increase by $50 after May 1. To qualify for current pricing, make sure your application is submitted and deposits paid by May 1.

Middle School Study Skills
(June 5 – June 23, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM)

Cost: Before May 1: $600; After May 1:$650

Middle School Study Skills focuses on techniques and learning strategies to improve students’ study skills. Emphasis is on students taking organized notes, time management, test-taking strategies, active listening, and methods of conducting research. In addition, students will review key skills and concepts in core content areas and meet key people that will help them navigate their middle school years.

World History 6
(June 5 – June 30, 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM)

Cost: Before May 1: $950; After May 1: $1,000

World History 6 follows the curriculum offered during the school year, but condenses material into one month. It is only appropriate for students who wish to take both the 6th grade wheel elective and either Middle School Choir/Strings/or Beginning Band. Students will be assessed through tests/quizzes, classwork, workbook activities/projects, and related activities/questions. During the summer, this course is very fast-paced and homework outside of class time will be expected.

World History 7
(June 5 – June 30, 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM)

Cost: Before May 1: $950; After May 1: $1000

In World History 7, students will study world events during the Middle Ages. The major topics are feudalism in Europe, the history of Islam, West African society, imperial China, medieval Japan, early Americas, and the age of Renaissance and Reformation. Students will be assessed through tests/quizzes, classwork, workbook activities/projects, and related activities/questions. During the summer, this course is very fast-paced and homework outside of class time will be expected. Successful completion of World History 7 during summer school will replace the course during the regular school year and will free another space in the student's 7th grade schedule.

US History 8
(June 5 – June 30, 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM)
Cost:
Before May 1: $950; After May 1: $1,000

This course explores the history of the United States from first colonies through industrialism. The major topics focus on the birth of the nation, American ideals, westward expansion, civil war, and the Progressive movement. A variety of tests, projects, and reading notes assess student understanding. During the summer, this course is very fast-paced and homework outside of class time will be expected. Successful completion of US History 8 during summer school will replace the course during the regular school year and will free another space in the student's 8th grade schedule.

Blended High School English – Credit Recovery
(June 5 – June 30, online/on-campus blend)
Cost:
Before May 1: $475 per semester; After May 1: $500 per semester

Blended English (Credit Recovery) will be a combination of online coursework (Mon-Fri) and on campus (MWF 12:30-2:30). First semester is from June 5 to June 16 (Blended English A). Second semester is from June 19 to June 30 (Blended English B). Blended English is intended to remediate coursework from English 6 - 1. This course provides remedial instruction in literature, grammar, and composition and is not available for initial credit. Students will be responsible to complete online assignments independently.

Algebra 1 – Credit Recovery
(June 5 – June 30, 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM)
Cost:
Before May 1: $475 per semester; After May 1: $500 per semester

Algebra 1 is intended to remediate coursework from Algebra 1. This course provides remedial instruction in math and is not available for initial credit. First semester is from June 5 to June 16 (Algebra 1 A). Second semester is from June 19 to June 30 (Algebra 1 B).

Geometry – Credit Recovery
(June 5 – June 30, 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM)
Cost:
Before May 1: $475 per semester; After May 1: $500 per semester

This course provides remedial instruction in Geometry and is not available for initial credit. First semester is from June 5 to June 16 (Geometry A). Second semester is from June 19 to June 30 (Geometry B).

Biology – Credit Recovery
(June 5 – June 30, 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM)
Cost:
Before May 1: $475 per semester; After May 1: $500 per semester

This course provides remedial instruction in biology and is not available for initial credit. First semester is from June 5 to June 16 (Biology A). Second semester is from June 19 to June 30 (Biology B).

Chemistry – Credit Recovery
(June 5 – June 30, 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM)

This course provides remedial instruction in chemistry and is not available for initial credit. First semester is from June 5 to June 16 (Chemistry A). Second semester is from June 19 to June 30 (Chemistry B).

Health

Health is a one-semester course where students will study a variety of health-related issues in an exploration of whole health that integrates physical, mental, social, emotional, and spiritual components.

Economics
(June 5 – June 23, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM)

Economics is a one-semester course that introduces students to basic economic principles and practices and how economics affect world events and vice - versa. Students will examine the world’s different economic systems, free enterprise, supply and demand, elasticity, competition, market dynamics, economic policy, microeconomics, macroeconomics, price, labor, trade, and banking.

Summer School Child Care offers activities and supervision for your student in the hours before and after summer school classes (beginning at 6:30 AM and ending at 6:30 PM). Any student on-campus after the 30 minute pick-up window following summer school classes will automatically be moved to child care and parents will be charged. Students may not remain on campus unsupervised. Some optional field trips are offered to students in Summer School Child Care as well, see registration site for prices and details. Cost for students in summer school until noon - $140 per week. Cost for students in summer school until 2:30 - $80 per week.

Cost: $180 (5 days per week) or $145 (3 days per week), plus optional field trip costs

Day Camp runs Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Scheduled activities are typically from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Day campers participate in games, crafts, group assemblies, and water play. Bible lessons, bounce houses, free time, and movies complete the Day Camp experience.

Basketball Camp (Coed – Grades 3-9)
(Session 1: June 5 – June 9 / Session 2: July 10 – July 14; 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM)
Cost: $225 (before June 1), $275 (after June 1), or $400 for both sessions

Campers will be put through a series of drills, competition, and workouts. The staff's goal is to make each player excel at their natural position, educating the boys on all fundamentals from post play, rebounding, shooting, passing, dribbling, defensive positioning, team play, and executing plays.

Each day, we will focus on two aspects of basketball with teaching points and drills to improve on with a snack break then games to implement what was worked on and learned for that day. On the last day of camp, the campers will receive player evaluations and all workouts learned for the week to take home to continue to improve on their game after camp.

Come ready to learn, sweat, and get better!

Soccer Camp (Coed – Grades 3-8)
(Session 1: June 5 – June 9 / Session 2: June 19 – June 23 / Session 3: June 26 – June 30 ; 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM)

The VCS Soccer Camp is held on the beautiful campus of Village Christian School. Emphasis will be placed on teaching the basic techniques and skills that are essential to improve one’s soccer game. Players will be grouped according to age and ability. We design a friendly environment in which players can develop skills while having fun.

The VCS Soccer Camp boasts some of the best qualified and accomplished coaching staff the area has to offer. We take pride in the quality of the services we offer and the expertise of our trainers.

Lacrosse Camp (Boys – Grades 3-9)
(June 12 – June 16; 9:00 AM – 1:30 PM)

Each day, Silverfin Lacrosse will focus on a different “theme” around which all drills will revolve. Each afternoon the group will participate in controlled scrimmages that will be officiated by camp staff. These scrimmages allow campers to apply the day’s course material in real live game situations. The camp will be staffed by past, present, and future NCAA lacrosse players. A “Pro Shop” for campers to purchase equipment and loaner gear will be available.

Football Camp (Boys – Grades 6-8)
(Session 1: July 17 – July 20 / Session 2: July 24 – July 27; 6:00 PM – 8 PM)

This camp provides your athlete with a week-long immersion into football for two hours daily. Each day is different and will focus on a variety of football skills and conditioning techniques. Special emphasis will also be placed on position-specific instruction with the help of our experienced coaches and superior player staff. This is a non-contact camp perfect for the pre-season. No matter what their level of football experience is, this program will improve your child’s ability to become a great competitor and have a successful football season.

Volleyball Camp (Girls – Grades 5-9)
(Session 1: June 26 – June 30 / Session 2: July 17 – July 21 / Session 3: July 24 – July 28; 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM)

Expert instruction from top coaches and players on the skills and strategies necessary to enjoy the game of volleyball.

Baseball/Softball Hitting Academy (Coed – Grades 3-8)

The Village Christian Hitting Academy is a one-week program designed to enhance the skills of the serious baseball/softball player by specialized hitting instructors teaching the fundamental and practical techniques of the game. The workouts will consist of hitting sessions concentrating on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of each swing through still-ball and live pitch exercises. This camp can be used to build a base of fundamentals or to maintain and refine your current level of play. MAXIMUM 30 PLAYERS. SPACE IS LIMITED.

High School Musical Jr.

If you’re in Middle School and you love to act, dance and sing, come on out and audition for “High School Musical Jr.!” Performances will be in the newly remodeled Auditorium! Musical Theater Camp

If you love acting, dancing and singing, this is the perfect camp for you! Students will explore the world of musical theatre and learn a mini show that they will perform at the end of camp on June 21.

The fundamentals of ballet, jazz, tap, and hip-hop will be taught, culminating in a final performance at the end of the session.

This class is for beginners (grades 1-5) who have already taken Kindergarten Ballet.

This class is for intermediate level Elementary students and beginner level MS/HS students.

Summer Band (6th Grade)​

This class is designed for current Intermediate Band students who would like to continue playing their instrument over the summer. This class serves to prepare them for Middle School Concert Band.

This class is designed for current Beginning Band students who would like to continue playing their instrument over the summer. We will continue learning new notes, rhythms, and songs from our current method book.

Private Lessons
(As scheduled throughout the summer)
Cost:
$32 per half-hour lesson, billed at the end of the month

Students will benefit from one-on-one instruction from experienced and qualified Christian teachers who are all professionals. Students may choose from voice, piano, drums, flute, violin, guitar, bass guitar, or dance. Once you have signed up for private lessons, a teacher will contact you to find a time that is mutually agreed upon for the lesson. Lessons are scheduled based on the availability of the teacher.
