VCS Bulletin Board
What is it?
We have set up an e-mail address called
“VCSBB@villagechristian.net.” Its purpose is to enable you to send messages to our staff that
you would normally be discouraged from doing. Some examples of what might
be sent to the bulletin board are personal ads such as your house is for
sale or that your pet dragon just had babies, etc.; outside prayer requests;
and topics that might be of interest to the whole staff.
Note that this address ends in .net, not.org.
Please note that our existing Acceptable Use Policy still applies. Following
are a couple of its pertinent paragraphs.
May I use the school's email to advertise for my private business or
to discuss politics?
To protect the school’s not-for-profit status, the electronic mail
system may not be used at any time to solicit or proselytize for commercial
ventures or political causes, or even for political comments. Do not use
email or a school related Web site to encourage people to vote for a particular
candidate or to comment on legislation currently under consideration.
Under IRS code, such activity could result in tax difficulties for the
school and potential loss of non profit status.
Are there any restricted topics for email?
The electronic mail system must be used within Biblical and professional
standards in regard to relationships. It may not be used to create any
offensive, defaming or disruptive messages. Among those which are considered
offensive, are any messages which contain sexual implications, racial
slurs, gender-specific comments, or any other comment that offensively
addresses someone's age, religious or political beliefs, national
origin, or disability. This includes the transmittal of gender related
humor and stories. It also includes degrading comments regarding politicians.
Can I send everyone my joke-of-the-day list or my daily devotionals?
E-mail may not be used to "spam" others. Spamming refers to sending
an unwanted e-mail to a large number of people. Obviously, important school
information may be sent to all of the staff. Please do not e-mail the
staff with today's joke or your weekly recipe list. Also, please do
not spam everyone with devotionals or other spiritually related material.
We definitely have a concern for everyone’s spiritual well-being,
but spamming, regardless of the content, still puts an enormous strain
on our servers.
