'Providential' Security Booth Donation to Save VCS Thousands of Dollars on Enhancement Project

Village Christian Chairman of the Board David Bethany called it “God’s providence.”

After all, you couldn’t time it better.

Looking to enhance campus security during our summer slate of improvement projects, VCS plans included the addition of a guard house inside the entrance gate.

Class of 1982 alum Tim Fry heard about the need and coordinated with new Village parent Beatriz Fahrberger to donate of a fully functioning security booth from NBC/Universal, which was delivered yesterday to VCS.

Though an estimated $25,000 is still required to complete the project, the donation saved the school more than $30,000.

“We’ve been checking and estimating the cost of building a security space,” Bethany said. “We’ve put together budgets. Then of course out of nowhere, we get a security building donated that makes the budget work entirely. Once again, the Lord has met our need.”

Fry, who runs Take 2 Services, often works with Fahrberger at NBC/Universal. As they looked to reduce on-site waste, Fry proposed the donation knowing VCS was planning to build a security booth.

“Universal is responsible to divert 64 percent of their waste,” Fahrberger said. “This particular unit was going to be scrap metal, so we looked at it, and when we heard that Village Christian had a need for a security booth, we were like, ‘wait a minute.’”

For Fry, whose children were also lifers at VCS, it was a great opportunity to give back.

“It’s awesome, and good to see,” said Fry after the delivery. “This is great.”

The donated booth will be installed this summer and augmented with new aesthetic treatments and additional security features.

Security enhancements represent a core initiative of the Village Christian Annual Fund, the current fundraising effort on campus. We need everyone’s help to reach our goal, and with yesterday’s donation, we’ve taken another dramatic step forward in continuing to secure our campus.

“Security is the highest priority for VCS, and I am convinced of the significant impact the secured entrance to our campus will provide,” said Head of School Tom Konjoyan. “I am grateful for all the families who have told me they will do whatever it takes to make sure our students and teachers are as safe as possible.”
