CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP (CREW – Grade 8)
“When He had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and
returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for your?”
he asked them. John 13:12
Students in Village Christian Leadership courses are invited to follow
the example of the Master Teacher by engaging in a ministry of learning,
leading, and service. The Middle School Christian Leadership Class combines
both classroom learning and outside experience to help middle school students
lead others, and practice group organization and problem solving.
The
CREW class is exposed to hands on experiential moments in which they can utilize
and develop their leadership skills. They participate in Disney’s
“Creating a Leadership Legacy” one-day retreat at Disneyland;
they lead 6th grade small groups, and they are given the opportunity to create and deliver
two to three class led Chapel during the course of the year.
SERVANT LEADERSHIP (Grades 11 and 12)
Servant and Leader: recipe for disaster or recipe for success? At VCS we
believe it is a recipe for success in all of life: business, family, friends,
education. It is the movement toward being a holistic person.
God created every person to be a leader in some capacity. "Anytime you seek to influence the thinking, behavior, or development of
people in their personal or professional lives, you are taking on the
role of a leader." Blanchard & Hodges,
Lead Like Jesus. Servant Leadership exists to teach students how to be a humble yet assertive
leader in their community. To do so, they must create a mentality that
is willing to lay their life on the line for those they lead. "This is the very best way to love. Put your life on the line for your friends
...” John 15:13-15,
The Message.
The Servant Leadership experience has the benefit of hands on experiential
moments that help to translate the classroom lectures, readings and exercises
into real life application. Students are afforded the opportunity to recruit
and lead L.I.F.E. Groups (Living Intentionally & Fully Everyday; "I have come that they may have life and have it to the full." John 10:10) In addition, the class takes a weekend retreat to LA’s
Dreamcenter where they serve the community, bond as a class and worship
together at Angelus Temple. They also go off-campus to the Villa Scalabrini
nursing home to offer care and love to the elderly.
NOTE: Both Middle and High School Leadership courses require an application
and references for acceptance. An application process is announced during
the 2nd Semester.
