Tenth Grade Retreat - January 16, 2018

VCS places a high value on the holistic development of our students. A major component in attaining this goal is through our Grade-Level-Retreats. The Spiritual Life Department is excited to present the 10th Grade Class with a unique experience on Tuesday, January 16. We will begin our day in the Chapel (located next to Central Office) at 8:00am before journeying to the Santa Clarita area and returning to campus by 2:40 p.m. The reason for traveling off-campus is to get-away, if only for a brief moment, and allow God’s Spirit to speak to us individually, in small groups, and as a class. We will spend our time at a local park, as well as, Mountasia Fun Center (http://www.mountasiafuncenter.com/ ). Please read below to see how this experience is geared toward our retreat theme.

*Make sure to read and sign the “Trip and Medical Authorization Form." Return this form along with $15 to your English Teacher (Mr. Anderson) on Wednesday, January 10.

Theme:

“And [Jesus] said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” -Matthew 22:37-39

During the Freshman Retreat we teach our students that God views them as “His masterpiece” (Ephesians 2:10) . God’s love for us prompts us to love Him in return. This reciprocal love represents two-thirds of the Great Commandment; love God, love yourself. During the 10th Grade Retreat, we highlight the third piece of the commandment, to “love your neighbor”. This completes the three-fold nature of the Great Commandment.

Our purpose in the 10th Grade Retreat is to give the class a different setting and a unique experience in which to learn, or be reminded, of the need to love one another. After all, their classmates are their neighbors. We also discuss how the “neighbor” extends to all others with whom we come into contact. This could be family, friends, the store clerk in the grocery line, etc. We end the day with fun & play at Mountasia Fun Center; as recent research has shown that fun and play can actually facility growth in relationship.
