Dear Elementary School Parents,

This year marks our 14th Annual Race for Education. This annual fundraising event is full of family fun and an enormous blessing for our students. Race allows our school to come together for fellowship, exercise, friendly competition, and support of a worthy cause. The Village community outdoes itself every year to raise substantial funds for school programs through the generous donations of their families and friends. Students learn that their efforts running as many laps as they can translates into very real enrichment to their education. My own father taught me many years ago that you can’t out give God. I am convinced this will be our most successful Race ever, and that God will continue to richly bless the efforts of the Village community.

We are praying for sunny weather, good runners, and the Lord’s blessing on our 14th Race. Thank you for the part you play and your support of Village Christian Elementary School.

2018 RFE GOAL

21st Century Classrooms

We are very excited to be moving forward with our innovative 21st Century Classrooms. As we have started to transition many of our classrooms into flex seating areas for learning, we are thrilled to see the increased enthusiasm and engagement of our students. The money from Race will enable us to provide the latest state-of-the-art furniture, technology, and other learning advantages for our students.

In previous years, the Race for Education Goal has supported multiple aspects of our STEAM program. New PE equipment, the science lab, Smartboards, computers for teachers, the Teaching Garden, and the new chapel sound and lighting systems have all been supported by Race funds. To better empower our students as they learn and grow, the classroom improvements will start them on the road to increased collaboration, critical-thinking opportunities, and differentiated learning. As students study in “real world” environments, they can take control of their own learning and grow in many different ways.

The funds provided by the Race for Education, sponsored by the Village Christian Elementary Parent Teacher Fellowship, have been a huge blessing to our students and teachers. Each year, our staff stands in humble awe of the generosity of our families, their relatives, and friends. Race allows our programs to expand, grow, and be the very best that they can be. We believe that we cannot only achieve, but exceed this year’s $30,000 goal with your help and God’s blessings. Join us in helping each and every Village student thrive!

What is the Race for Education?

Race for Education is our annual Elementary jog-a-thon. Students walk or run laps around a 1/6th-mile area for approximately one hour. There is also an obstacle course. Students are divided into teams based on grade level, with grades JK-2 completing their laps in the first race and grades 3-5 completing their laps in the second race.

When does this year's Race take place?

This year’s race is Friday, February 23, 2018, on the VCS campus.

What is the purpose?

Race for Education is a fundraiser that provides a fun way for students to participate in advancing their own education. This program helps VCS Elementary PTF raise funds for needed items that are not typically covered by the school’s general operating budget. Funds from previous Races have paid for the science lab, classroom SMART Boards, new computers, PE equipment, and last year, a new sound and light system for the Chapel. This year, we are raising money for outfitting our classrooms as 21st Century learning spaces.

How does it work?

Students ask sponsors to contribute funds based on the number of laps they complete (for example, $1 per lap). Or if preferred, sponsors can make a flat donation.

Sponsor sheets and contact information will be included in an information packet sent home in the upcoming weeks.

Who should my student ask to be a sponsor?

Potential sponsors may be family members (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins) living nearby or out of state. Close friends, neighbors, or people you do business with can all be a great source of sponsorship. We ask that students do not solicit strangers (door-to-door solicitation is discouraged).

How can I support the Race?

We encourage parents, family members, and friends to support Race for Education by sponsoring their student with a per-lap or flat donation. We also welcome and encourage volunteers to help prior to Race with some organizational tasks and on the day of the event as well. Please feel free to join your child during their race time.
