Race for Education

Dear Elementary School Parents,

This year marks our 13th Annual Race for Education fundraising event. This annual event is full of family fun and is an enormous blessing for our students. Race allows our school to come together for fellowship, exercise, friendly competition, and support of a worthy cause. The Village community outdoes itself every year to raise substantial funds for school programs through generous donations from families and friends. Students learn that their efforts running as many laps as they can translate into very real enrichment of their education. My own father taught me many years ago that you can’t out-give God. I am convinced that this will be our most successful Race ever and that God will continue to richly bless the efforts of the Village community.

Within a few weeks, your child(ren) will come home with a packet containing information regarding this year’s event. It will provide a timetable and necessary forms for Race. Please review the information and return any specified forms promptly. You are the reason Race is so successful year after year.

We are praying for sunny weather, good runners and the Lord’s blessing on our 13th Race. Thank you for the part you play and your support of Village Christian Elementary School.

New Sound and Lighting Systems for the Chapel

We are very excited to be moving forward with the modernization of our Chapel. This iconic Village building is used weekly by our Elementary students as they worship the Lord in song and praise and learn about Him through grade-specific devotions. The sound and lighting systems are in desperate need of updating. Our hope is that the “new and improved” Chapel will enhance the devotion and worship experience for your students.

In previous years, the Race for Education Goal has supported multiple aspects of our STEAM program. New PE equipment, the ST Math Program, Science Lab, SMARTBoards, computers for teachers, and the Teaching Garden have all been supported by Race funds. To better empower our students as they learn and worship the Lord, the 2017 Race Goal will support a refurbishment of the Chapel sound and lighting systems.

Village has the privilege and opportunity to not only grow your students academically and physically, but spiritually as well. Having an upgraded venue for that spiritual growth will tremendously add to the students’ experience.

The funds provided by Race for Education, sponsored by the Village Christian Elementary Parent Teacher Fellowship, are a huge blessing to our students and teachers. Each year, our staff stands in humble awe of the generosity of our families and their relatives and friends. Race allows our programs to expand, grow and be the very best they can be. We believe we will not only achieve but exceed this year’s $30,000 goal with your help and God’s blessings. Join us in helping each and every Village student thrive!

What is the Race for Education?

Race for Education is our annual Elementary jog-a-thon. Students walk or run laps around a 1/6th-mile area for approximately one hour. There is also an obstacle course. Students are divided into teams based on grade level, with grades JK-2 completing their laps in the first race and grades 3-5 completing their laps in the second race.

When does this year's Race take place?

This year’s race is Thursday, March 9, 2017, on the VCS campus.

What is the purpose?

This event is a fundraiser that provides a fun way for students to participate in advancing their own education. This program helps VCS Elementary PTF raise funds for needed items that are not typically covered by the school’s general operating budget. Funds from previous Races have paid for classroom computer clusters, SMARTBoards and Response Systems, the ST Math Program, Elementary Science Lab, new computers, printers and monitors for our teachers, and exercise equipment for our Physical Education program. This year, we are raising money to update the student Chapel.

How does it work?

Students ask sponsors to contribute funds based on the number of laps they complete (for example, $1 per lap). Or if preferred, sponsors can make a flat donation.

Sponsor sheets and contact information will be included in an information packet sent home in the upcoming weeks.

Who should my student ask to be a sponsor?

Potential sponsors may be family members (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins) living nearby or out of state. Close friends, neighbors, or people you do business with can all be a great source of sponsorship. We ask that students do not solicit strangers (door-to-door solicitation is discouraged).

How can I support the Race?

We encourage parents, family members, and friends to support Race for Education by sponsoring their student with a per-lap or flat donation. We also welcome and encourage volunteers to help prior to Race with some organizational tasks and on the day of the event as well. Please feel free to join your child during their race time.
