Village Christian Schools - A heritage of faith, a tradition of excellence

Miss VanZoest

Dear Parents,

Open House is coming up soon.  Since 4th grade studies the history of California throughout the entire school year, how appropriate to create an edible California cookie for this wondrous night!!  For Open House on Thursday, May 13th, we would like you and your child to work together to create an edible state of California.

This project is to be fun!!!   Use your imagination to bring to life the various features of California.  NO PLASTIC!  Everything on this cookie must be edible.

You can use your own special recipe for chocolate chip cookies, or you may use the Betty Crocker Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix.  (The refrigerated dough does not work very well.)  You can use various types of candy and frosting to add mountains, rivers, lakes, oceans, and important landmarks and cities to your edible map of California.  Be sure to include an edible key for your map.  The cookie must be able to fit on one side of your child’s desk.  We prefer that you use a 9x13 baking pan. Be sure to cover the cookie with clear plastic wrap (not foil) to keep little hands from touching during Open House.

This project is optional. Those who turn in a cookie will be given extra credit in social studies.  We understand that this time of the year may already be swamped with activities, so it is up to you if you want to participate.  If you do make a state cookie, please bring it to school the morning of Open House, Thursday, May 13th (no sooner).

                                                                                                            Sincerely,

                                                                                                            The 4th grade teachers
