Reproductive System Project
Click the above link to find all information related to the reproductive system project.
Family Tree Project

This is our first project of the semester. The purpose of this project is for students to gain an awarness of their family history so as to know hereditary risks, gain insight into behavioral patterns, and enhance self esteem through discovery of important family accomplishments. The requirements for this project are listed below.
-
The family tree must stem back to great grandparents. This is the minimum requirement.
-
Students should name all persons who share a similar genetic code. In other words students should chart great grandparents, their brothers and sisters, great grandparents children(grandparents), grandparents children, Aunts, Uncles, and their children, etc.
-
Each individual charted on the family tree should have the following information:
-
Date of birth
-
Place of birth
-
Description of occupation
-
Description of residence (geographic region)
-
Date of death
-
Cause of death
-
Hereditary risk factors
-
Interesting facts (plural, more than one) about persons life
- Students may chose to layout the family tree in a document form such as word or excel but the project must be organized and the teacher should be able to navigate through their history easily.
- Leaving out family members or incomplete descriptions of any family member will result in an incomplte grade. The information on family members is availible but at times will require research. That is an imporant part of this project.
NOTEBOOKS
Notebooks should be brought to class EVERY TIME WE MEET. We use them every day.
- The notebook should be a three ring, regular sized notebook.
- The notebook should be Health EXCLUSIVE and should have three tabs in it.
- The tabs should be labeled "F.F.M", "NOTES", and "CLASSWORK". When I collect notebooks I check to see if these three sections are up to date. When assignments are missing, students lose points.
F.F.M.
Students should always have a journal or health notebook and a pencil or pen for the F.F.M. (First Five Min.) activity. This activity will be done everyday, from the beginning of the semester to the end.
Homework
Homework will be fairly regular. Students are required to turn in homework the next meeting time after it was assigned. No late work is accepted unless a student has a worthy excuse (My dog ate it is an example of an unworthy excuse).
Classwork
Students are expected to participate on a regular basis in class. An example of participation is raising ones hand to answer a question. Simply putting a warm body in a chair with a blank look is an example of being alive. It is my hope that students will have mastered this skill by now. Various in class activities will help to prevent students from further mastery of the aforementioned skill.
Long-term Projects
Each health unit will have a project that will require more time than a typical homework assignment, hence the title "Long-term Project". Specific project descriptors will be handed out several days in advance prior to each project. Since time and effort are important factors in these projects, grade weights will be higher.
