SUMMER '11 ASSIGNMENTS: Reading is, per se, a true teacher, since in it we find many details of orthography and grammar. It is also very necessary to amplify the vocabulary. For that reason, the summer assignment consists of much reading and a written essay about what was read. The following is a list of requirements of the A.P. Spanish class. All materials are available from the High School Office; make sure you pick these up as soon as you can.  Everything is due and should be postmarked by Fri. August 19th, 2011.  With the exception of the translation material, all work must be done in Spanish. You may use a dictionary, but no full computer translation of documents or “cut & paste”. 
  • Recordings: Obtain a tape player for series of oral assignments **
                   ·         Reading & Comprehension,  Sections 1 – 5 & Sections 33 & 34. 
  • Writing, Informal, Sections 1 – 4 and the items below.
                       
  • Periodical: Choose any documentary on drug or alcohol abuse from any Spanish periodical, write an English translation synopsis and write a 100 word essay/synopsis in Spanish, handwritten.
 Newspapers:  La Opinión Choose any article of interest to you and write a 100-word (minimum) essay, giving your personal opinion about the material. Cut out and paste the chosen article on a clean sheet of paper and turn in along with the essay.  ·         Free Reading: Reader’s Digest has a Spanish publication: “Selecciones.” Choose any material of interest to you and write a 100 word essay. Photocopy or cut out the story and include with the essay. PLEASE TURN IN THE MATERIAL TO THE HIGH SCHOOL OFFICE IN A MANILA FOLDER: 1.       Include your name on each document and on the envelope.Length of essays:     Periodical = 100 words                             Newspapers = 100 words All essays should be handwritten, in Spanish, except for the translation                             ** Taped assignments will be assigned on an individual basis after school starts..

Week 1 08/29 - 09/02

  • Seating assignments, class rules & expectations, textbook distribution
  • Review of recording device with 1st set of practices.
  • Overview of course and different activities for the 1st Semester.
  • Internet assignments, "El Kiosko" - reading and comprehension assignments
Week 2, 09/05 - 09th = First taped assignments, graded, with other recording practices -
  • Familiarization of what's expected in the taping assignments
  • Some general recording rules for the audible exercises.
  • Homework, family and friends taping with 1st assignment due on Monday, 09/21.
  • Presentation of reading and comprehension material -
  • Taped assignments from picture sequence material due 09/21.

Week 3, 09/20-09/24

  • Taped assignments due Monday (picture sequence)
  • Continued taped practices on picture sequence material for equipment familiarization
  • Begin "Reading and Comprehension" material practice
  • Homework, a) writing assignments on picture sequence b) taped/speking assignment

 Week 4, 09/27-10/01

  • Begin "Listening and Comprehension" exercises with answer sheets
  • Coninue the "Reading and Comprehension" material exercises
  • Cummulative Quiz at the end of the week, a)taping & b)reading & comprehension

  • Numbers review with quiz at end of week

Week 5, 10/04 - 10/08

  • Begin review of informal speaking exercises
  • Practices of listening & comprehension
  • Presentation of Speaking/Informal for grading at end of week

Week 6, 10/11 - 10/15

  • Begin writing assignemtns, with corrections from previous material
  • Begin review of accents, quiz at end of next week

Week 7, 10/18 - 10/22

  • Informal writing exercises - grammar and accents review
  • Continue review of accents and basic writing rules

Week 8, 10/25 - 10/29  *** SPIRIT WEEK AND NONFIRE, HOMECOMING SAT., 10/30 

  • Begin formal writing assignments, with topic selections from AP Book
  • Review accents and grammar from previous week w/applications
  • Continue revision of grammar rules and exercises from textbook
  • Quiz on Accents at end of week

Week 9, 11/01 - 11/05  *** End of Quarter One ***

  • Formal written assignment from individual topic selected by students
  • Rewriting exercises for corrections and improving
  • Presentation of formal writing topics for student selection
  • Formal written assignment, graded, at end of week
  • A Favorite Artist = project for next week w/selection due Mon., 11/09

Week 10, 11/08 - 11/12   *** No School Wed., 11/10 = Veteran's Day ***

  • Favorite Artist selection due (preparation and websites)

  • Content buildup for Reading & Comprehension exercise

Week 12, 11/22 - 11/26   *** Thanksgiving Week *** No School on Thursday, 11/25 or Friday, 11/26 

  • Return to Grammar Exercises, Pgs. 94-98
  • Class exercises on Past Participle & Pluperfect
  • Oral presentation of exercises from Grammar Text
