2011 ~ 2012 Class General Information

 Dear parents and precious students,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to Mandarin Chinese class. The 2011 ~ 2012 academic year is an exciting one at our Mandarin Chinese classes and I anticipate a great year for student learning.

Learning a new language gives you an entree into another culture in ways that enrich your social experience and change the way you view the world. V.C.S. offers Mandarin Chinese course designed to give you what you need to communicate effectively in another language, whether you want just the basics, seek to build your fluency, or wish to study literature or culture in the mother tongue.

It is important keep in mind that this is a college prep course. It is part of the requirements to enter into state schools.

Class Rules

  1. The keyword is Respect. Respect yourself, respect others and respect authority.
  2. Anytime you do in class can not cause a problem for anyone else.
  3. No cell phones or of electronic devices any kinds are allowed in class.
  4. No food, drinks or gum in the classroom.
  5. Sit in your assigned seat daily
  6. Attend each class on time.

 Required Materials

  1. Chinese - English / English - Chinese Dictionary
  2. One 3 Ring Binder with Dividers to take notes
  3. pens, pencils and erasers
  4. Note:Text book must  be covered and kept in good condition at all the time. Books are assessed at the end of the year.

 Methods of Evaluation

 1.  Oral l /written quizzes and presentations

 2.  Chapter Test

 3.  Homework

 4.  Oral Participation

 5.  Students interactions together using Chinese.

 6.  Semester Exams

 

Make-up work due to absence

This work is due based on the number of days absent +1. For instance, if a student was absent for 2 days he or she has 3 days (2 days + 1 additional day) to submit the assignment.

 

 Grades

                100% -90% = A

                89% - 80% = B

                79% - 70% = C

                69% - 60% = D

                59 % - 0% =F

There are two items of which to be aware:

All papers received  “D” or “F” will be sent home for a parental signature. One of the important grades is participation please encourage your child to be active in the class.
