The King’s Pathway Assignment
This assignment will allow you to design blueprints for pathways made of various polygons. You will construct T-tables and graphs for each polygon and find the formula for each construction. This pathway is for the ugly concrete section between the doors to our classroom. Please use the pattern blocks to draw your shapes. (These blocks are provided by me)·
You will have three weeks to complete the project it will be turned in on December 19th.·
Use the attached example for the layout of the project poster. ·
You must color the pathway and be very accurate with your graphs and computations.·
Also the following questions need to be answered in complete 8th grade sentences. Please write more than one sentence for each answer.
o Why do the formulas for each individual shape (polygon) add up to the formula for the entire pathway?
o If you were given the cost of each type of polygon, how would you find the cost of the entire pathway?
o Do your functions have an intercept that is other than zero? What is it about the design of the pathway that makes an intercept?o What component of the pathway accounts for the slope of the functions?·
The Rubric for grading is below:
o 25 points: Accuracy and Measurement
§ Are the paths square to and parallel to the edges of the paper?
§ Is the vertical spacing between the steps equal?
§ Are the three steps aligned to the left side?
§ Are the T-tables and the graph neatly drawn?
o 25 points: Quality and Presentation
§ Is the lettering straight, consistent, and, neat?
§ Are colors used consistently?§ Is the pathway neatly colored?
§ Are erasures neat and complete?
o 50 points: Mathematics/Answers to the questions
§ Are the T-tables accurate?
§ Are the functions correct?
§ Are the functions graphed correctly?
§ Is step 100 correctly evaluated?
§ Are your answers thorough and complete?
§ Are your sentences constructed with the correct grammar and punctuation?
§ Is the question restated in your answer?
You will be sharing your pathway with the class in the form of an oral presentation as well. This will not harm your grade in any way so just have fun with it
Sincerely, Mrs. Bowker
