Welcome to my math webpage! Here you will find math homework and upcoming test dates or other important information. Please visit this site first when you have a question because I may have the answer you need here. Otherwise feel free to email me at marileeh@villagechristian.org
Math homework will mostly be a "weekly packet" which will help the student practice needed and new skills in math. Some pages may be review, but will be applicable to the skills currently learning. I have found the packets are flexible to extracurricular schedules. They will include answer keys where answers are in random order for self-checking purposes. We will not go over the entire packet to check if they are done accurately, but a quiz will be given on Fridays covering problems from the packet to ensure that they are really doing it.
Since practicing math is as essential as practicing any other skill - pitching, batting, volleying, piano...- I do expect my students to take charge of this in order to be successful in my class. I give them several opportunities to practice each skill and I am here after school for extra help. However, teenagers will exploit the freedoms when they are first given as a chance to "slack off". If your student is at home and says their homework is all done, ask to see it to ensure it is complete or have them practice flashcards for multiplication or fractions(adding, subtracting...), which are the weakest yet most needed skills for 6th grade. Or a computer skill game is good also.
Student (8-12 graders) tutors are available through the math dept. on a first-come basis. They are limited to the students that apply for the job.
I hope this has been helpful until Back to School Night where I will present more of my expectations and requirements. Math is my favorite subject and one that is needed in most aspects of adult life.
