Writing
The Fine Arts Academy offers aspiring student writers a great opportunity to hone their skills and explore the impact and creativity of the written word. Students taking the writing class will learn the essentials of good plot structure and character and conflict development. Students will participate in in-class exercises to spur their creativity, and will receive constructive feedback as they work on short story projects of what makes good fiction.
Poetry students will learn the rules and structures of various poetic forms. Students will participate in in-class activities to spur their creativity, and will receive constructive feedback as they work develop their poetic skills and expression.
The goal of both classes is to publish students' work in either a print or online format.
Fiction Middle School Monday 3 to 4 pm

Ryan M. Blanck - teacher
Mr. Blanck earned his BA in English Literature in 2000 and his MA in the same field in 2007. He has taught high school English for 11 years, five at Village Christian High School. He currently teaches Advanced Placement English Literature, and AP English Language. He published his first essays in an online magazie in 2003, and published his first book the same year. Mr. Blanck currently writes for three different blogs and is working two book-length manuscripts. This fall, he will be a featured speaker at a literary conference in Antwerp, Belgium. He resides in Moorpark with his wife and two daughters.
