EVENT INFORMATION

PIANO/VOCAL FESTIVAL:

Those of you who are involved in piano or are a middle or high school voice student should have received a Piano/Vocal Festival Registration Form. We apologize for the $7 registration fee; we use the money to hire the adjudicators and accompanists, which would drain our meager annual budget. This Festival is a unique performance opportunity where the students are adjudicated and, based on their evaluation, awarded with a colored ribbon and certificate. Piano teachers will prepare their students with a classical piece and certain technical requirements—scales and chords. A list of technical requirements will be provided to each student after registration. The evaluations are held before a small audience of family and students, lasting no longer than ten minutes. As we receive the Registration Forms, we will arrange students into rooms and time slots. The times will range between 6:00 and 8:00 PM. Naturally, the younger students will play first, followed by the older students. These adjudicated events provide valuable feedback which general recitals neglect, so we would urge all qualifying students to participate.

MOVIE RECITALS:

Most of the Academy students will have some involvement in our annual movie recitals. Come early to see a display from our talented art students, then stick around to see our vocalists and instrumentalists perform selections from movies and television shows while a scene from that particular movie or show is playing silently on a screen. Throughout the recitals, our drama students will entertain us with small skits and scenes. Students are encouraged to come dressed in character—or not—and bring a few dollars to cover the expense of popcorn, candy, and sodas. If you happen to have access to appropriate movie posters or have an extensive collection of DVD’s we can borrow, please call my office at Village or send me an e-mail.

Those of you who have students performing musically, we need to collect some information from you. If you have any questions about this, feel free to contact me.

o The title and movie of your song
o An exact segment from a DVD which would match with the song. When you play a DVD, there are numbers passing on a little screen on the player, showing how much time has passed. Write down the numbers at the beginning and end of the segment.

We need time to get a master DVD ready, one for each performance. For this reason, there can be no last second entries. we’ll send out a form in April to collect the movie and time information.
