Guest Speakers- It was noted that high school principal Mr. Luketic would arrive to the meeting later, so since president Debbie Sponsler had his notes, she went over the important points and explained that Mr. Luketic’s regular emails contained all the up-to-date information about the high school. When Mr. Luketic arrived, he briefly recapped what Debbie had mentioned and added information about VCS’s continuing enrollment process.
Old Business
- Praises and Prayers- Debbie Sponsler asked members for an update regarding all the people we have been praying for over the past several months, and noted how our prayers have continued to help those in need.
- Valentine’s Day Balloon Fundraiser- Debbie Sponsler expressed her thanks to all the volunteers; she also thanked Teresa Marco for ordering the “Thank You Basket” of Edible Arrangements for the Leeper Company who donated the helium tanks for our fundraiser.
- Thank You- Additional thanks were extended to everyone who donated soap “For the Troops” and items for the Argentina Mission trip scheduled for this June. Judy Hanna in our Student Bookstore is continuing to collect items for the mission trip, including suitcases and new underwear and socks.
- Mexacali Trip-the trip was a great success again this year.
- Executive PTF Summary-A new marketing tool for our Elementary School, including a DVD enclosure, has been developed and approved for use.
New Business
- Priority Request Chris Frankland- No decision was made regarding how we might assist Mr. Frankland after the catastrophic fire at his home. We will discuss this matter again in the near future.
- MS/HS Board Nominations are now being accepted for the 2008-2009 school year.
- The Scholarship Committee for the high school seniors will need a few volunteers in May to assist with the review of the scholarship applications. Those interested should talk to Debbie.
- Teacher Appreciation Luncheon is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13th. This event will be chaired by Maria Barbario and Kristi Herrera with food being purchased through StoneFire restaurant. They will be asking for volunteers to donate dessert and drinks.
- Our Year-end Giveaway for Students will be Italian ices again this year, due to the treat’s popularity with all our students. The event is set for Monday, May 19th ; Evelyn Righettini, Leticia Schwager and Teresa Marco will chair this event. Posters will need to be put up in advance to remind students of this giveaway.
- MS Awards Chapel is scheduled for May 23rd at 8:00 a.m.; Jackie Steely and June Sweeney will chair this event. Donations of juices and baked goods were requested.
- High School Awards Ceremony is scheduled for May 28th from 7:00-9:00 p.m.; Allison Weir and Teresa Marco will chair this event.
- Year-end Teachers’ Gifts are being selected and purchased by Maria Barberio; anyone interested in helping her assemble the gifts can contact her directly.
- Ideas for Next Year’s February Fundraiser- Due to the escalating prices of helium and balloons, we will probably have a different type of fundraiser next year. Members were asked to think about what we want to do next year, and also if we want to have a “Spring” fundraiser, rather than a Valentine’s Day one. (In 2009, Valentine’s Day will be on a Saturday).
- Open Forum
Senior Gifts-Discussion is ongoing regarding what PTF will give our graduating seniors this year.
Volunteer Coordinator-Mr. Dink O’Neil, VCS parent, presented his idea of developing a volunteer program that would serve to enhance and strengthen volunteerism at VCS. After he gave an overview of his proposal, Debbie said she will bring this idea up at the next Executive Board meeting which will be held on April 25th.
Coming Up Soon
Debbie pointed out important dates on our school calendar and encouraged everyone to take note of these. Our school’s theatrical production of “Annie Gets Your Gun” runs May 1-3.
