MS/HS Minutes

December 5, 2007

Previous to the official start of the meeting, President Debbie Sponsler asked the PTF Board Members to vote regarding whether or not to give credit to a VCS student for the PTF ad.  A vote was taken and it was approved to give a student credit for this ad.

President Debbie Sponsler welcomed everyone to the meeting and said an opening prayer.

Guest Speakers

  • Kevin Aust, VCS Student Activities Director, was the guest speaker this month.  Mr. Aust also serves as the Associated Student Body Advisor and teaches ninth grade Bible.  Mr. Aust gave an overview of the various events and programs that are being implemented at the high school level, including new freshman orientation, and a blood drive, amongst other activities.  Although he works mainly with the high school, he has plans to expand the programs for middle school students, in the near future.
  • Spanish teacher Mr. Brache made a short, unexpected visit to express his appreciation to the board for the purchase of a second refrigerator in the faculty lounge.  He said everyone is grateful for the new appliance.

Secretary’s Report

The minutes for the November meeting were distributed to all attendees for review.  June Sweeney made a motion to approve the November minutes; Leticia Schwager seconded the motion.  After a vote, the November minutes were approved.

Treasurer’s Report

The Monthly Report and Receipts Disbursements documents were distributed to all attendees for review.  After review, it was requested that a change be made on the Receipts Disbursements document: Under deposits “Family Fair” will be changed to read “Blanket Funds”.  Noting this change, Kristi Herrera made a motion to approve the financial documents; Jackie Steely seconded the motion.  After a vote, the November financials were approved.

Old Business

  • Donut Give-Away- Debbie thanked all the volunteers who helped make this event so successful.  It was noted that because we had scheduled the Krispi Kreme donut give-away on a yellow day, there were fewer students on campus.  Thus, in the future, it was recommended that we plan this event on a day when most students will be in attendance at school (preferably on a red day).
  • Thanksgiving Treats for Teachers- This event was also a great success.  Debbie expressed a big thank you to all the volunteers who helped put this event together.
  • PTF Yearbook Ad- Vice President Maria Barbario is in charge of working on the ad.  Discussion came up regarding changes to the ad and the possibility of doing the ad in color this year.  Debbie Sponsler made a motion to run the ad in color; Allison Weir seconded the motion.  A vote was taken and the motion was approved.

Coming Up Soon

·        Holiday Buffet For Teachers and all VCS Personnel- This event is coming up on Wednesday, December 5th.  Teresa Marco and Leticia Schwager are chairing this event and said everything is going along very well.  Additional volunteers were asked to please sign up as servers, and to help with the clean-up following the event.

·        Other Important Dates: Debbie announced important events on our school calendar and encouraged everyone to make note of these dates, including but not limited to: Choir Concert on 12/9, Booster Club Meeting on 12/11, Middle School Strings Performance on 12/18, and Christmas Break 12/21-1/6 (school resumes on 1/7/08).

·        Cram Candy for Students- This event is slated for Thursday, January 17th.  Debbie Boyd has been busy working on obtaining Wonka brand candy for distribution to our students.  Debbie said she will bring the candy to our next meeting.  (Jan. 7)  Anyone interested in helping assemble the candy give-aways can make arrangements with Debbie.

Next Big Event

·        Valentine’s Day Balloon Sale- A copy of the pre-order form that will be used this year was distributed to attendees for review.  These flyers will be included in the January mailer.  Debbie Sponsler displayed some of the executive animals that might be available for sale in this event.  Debbie Sponsler and Shari Anderson will co-chair this PTF fundraiser.  A call for volunteers was made to help with this event.

Continuing Events

·        Campus Prayer Walk-Debbie reminded everyone that the Campus Prayer Walk is led by Susan Kendall-Bell every Friday morning for those who are interested.

Final Note

·        High School Principal Mr. Luketic stopped in at the end of the meeting to talk about school fundraisers.  He said fundraising efforts are being evaluated and coordinated at this time by the Advancement and Development Committee, and requested that a list of all PTF’s fundraising activities be compiled and forwarded to him.

Our next PTF meeting will be held on January 7, 2008 at 1:15 p.m.
