MS/HS Minutes
November 5, 2007
President Debbie Sponsler welcomed everyone to the meeting and newcomers were acknowledged.
Guest Speakers
- Volleyball Coach Bobby Blanken was the guest speaker this month. Mr. Blanken gave an enthusiastic presentation about his own background and his work with the high school women's volleyball team this year. Mr. Blanken is also a high school health and physical education instructor.
Secretary's Report
The minutes for the September and October meetings were distributed to all attendees for review. Silva Kardjian made a motion to approve the September minutes; Debbie Sponsler seconded the motion. After a vote, the September minutes were approved. Suzy Frankian made a motion to approve the October minutes; June Sweeney seconded the motion. After a vote, the October minutes were approved.
Treasurer's Report
The Monthly Report and Receipts Disbursements documents were distributed to all attendees for review. As a result of PTF's booths at the Family Fair, our deposits were boosted up this month accordingly. Leslie Smith made a motion to approve the financial documents as submitted; Kristi Herrera seconded the motion. After a vote, the October financials were approved.
Old Business
- Skate Night- This middle school event was a great success this year. Debbie thanked all the volunteers who helped plan and organize Skate Night. She expressed her special thanks to Allison Weir for chairing the event.
- Family Fair- The Family Fair was a great hit with everyone who attended. Debbie expressed her thanks to the many volunteers who came out to support this school activity. Debbie explained that the goal of the Family Fair is not to make money, but rather, to have the entire school community come out and share a good time together. Everyone agreed the event was lots and lots of fun!
- Senior Prayer Parents- This special program is going along very well. All volunteer Prayer Parents have been assigned their Senior students and are now continuing to pray for them.
- High School Dean of Students Mr. Plaisance- The update on Mr. Plaisance's recovery is good. Hopefully, he will return to VCS on December 1.
Coming Up Soon
· Thanksgiving Treats for Teachers- This event is scheduled on November 14th. Maria Barbario and Kristi Herrera are the chairs. They have arranged to have "Coffee Carts" featuring Iced Chai Tea and Mocha Iced Coffee from The Coffee Stop. In addition, Judy Dvoracek will be in charge of collecting and serving baked goods for this event. A sign-up sheet was passed around for those who would like to donate any baked goods.
· Fall Giveaway for MS & HS Students- The giveaway this fall will be Krispi Kreme donuts. Maria Barbario and Kristi Herrera will pick up the donuts and bring them to VCS. Gratefully, Debbie acknowledged all the volunteers who have already signed up to help with this event.
· Holiday Buffet For Teachers and all VCS Personnel- This event is scheduled for December 5th. Discussion came up regarding what type of food should be served. It was decided that we will have a Christmas theme and serve Italian food. Teresa Marco and Leticia Schwager will chair this event. Volunteers were asked to donate salads and desserts. Volunteers are especially needed for clean-up following this event. Please sign up.
· Senior Yearbook Page- The due date to submit the PTF page for the high school yearbook is fast-approaching. A sample of a previous yearbook page was displayed. Debbie asked if anyone was interested in re-designing our page. Maria Barbario volunteered and will be in charge of that task.
Continuing Events
· Other Important Dates: Debbie announced important events on our school calendar and encouraged everyone to enjoy all the exciting school activities that are coming up, including: Bible Bowl against LAB on 11/8 (please verify times), 8th Grade Parent Meeting: "Preparing for High School" on 11/13, Community Open House on 12/1, and the MS/HS Marching Band at the Montrose Christmas Parade on 12/1, among other important dates.
· Cram Candy for Students- This event is slated for Thursday, January 17th. Debbie Boyd has been busy working on obtaining Wonka brand candy for distribution to our students. She presented a variety of candy for display that she plans to include in this giveaway.
Our next PTF meeting will be held on December 3rd at 1:15 p.m.
