The first meeting of the 2008-2009 school year was held in the HS teacher’s lounge. The meeting was opened in prayer by Mr. Luketic and President Debbie Sponsler began the meeting. Introductions were made by the board and those attending the meeting.
Secretary’s Report
There were no minutes to review.
Treasurer’s Report
The July- August financial report was distributed for review which included the monthly Budget to Actual and the Receipts Disbursements. In addition, Treasurer June Sweeney addressed some questions regarding income and expenses related to the Business Directory. After reviewing the documents, Sandy Smizer made a motion to accept the report as presented; Let Schwager seconded the motion. A vote was taken, and the treasurer’s report was approved as presented. 8 votes for, no opposed 3 no votes.
Principal’s ReportMr. Luketic welcomed everyone and stated the totals for High School are 535 students; the numbers are only down by about 40. The school year has started off great, including winning Saturdays football game. Some new classes were added this year including, Mandarin Chinese and Advancement Placement in Art. He looks forward to a strong year ahead. Mr. Plaisance’s goal this year is to assist the students with wiser decisions. This year they want to challenge the students to stretch themselves to do harder things, to act like adults. The teachers have been asked to identify any student that receives two consecutive zeros in a class. They want to set the bar higher for the students. The challenge for the students is Don’t take any Zeros. The theme of the year is going to be do hard things, brave things and courgeous things and endure. New Business
- Executive Board Meeting- President Debbie Sponsler discussed the new theme for the Executive Board this year which is communication. You can check on the Village website for notes and information. They are looking for new members to join for next year. They meet once a month. They are planning new events with Mike Harmon (Development Director) for brand new families to get together like movie nights and picnics. They are planning a Gala event on Oct. 11th.
- Volunteers- There will be a form in the administration office for those who would like to volunteer in traffic or on campus regarding releasing liability.
- Bookcovers- This year we started with 1022 and are now left with 79. They sold very well this year. The last of the blankets left over from the fair were also sold.
- Yearbook page- We discussed what was done last year, passing the yearbook around for every one to see. Debbie indicated that we spent $200.00. We discussed the plan for this year and asked for help with ideas.
- PTF Communication- A letter was put together by the PTF board over the summer. Debbie asked if everyone would prayerfully consider chairing or being part of some need on the list. It is also posted on the website. Senior Graduation Leis and Christmas Garland/Wreaths will need a lot of help. They will be prepaid and have extras for sale on the day of the events. We talked about where the funds go from the monies raised from these events. The funds go back to the school for the teachers and students.
- Year end teacher gifts- Maria Barbario offered to chair the event if Let Schwager would co-chair. She accepted.
- Middle School Awards- Jackie Steely is co chairing with Suzy Frankian
- Baked Goods- Sandy Smizer and Suzie Frankian co chairing.
- Welcome Back Brunch- Maria Barbario and Allison Weir co chairing. They need help with set up and bringing food. A theme was discussed. They are going to have bagels and hot casseroles. It will be held during nutrition on Sept. 17th.
- Spirit Fridays- To be held twice in the month of September. PTF will sell candy and sodas on the shield. Everything will be a $1.00. Posters to be made, laminated and hung on campus. Co chairs are June Sweeney and Jackie Steely. Announcements will be put in the daily bulletin.
- Fifth Quarter (Football)- ASB has taken it off their agenda due to difficulty with obtaining chaperons and staff to supervise. It was considered a fundraiser but no group ever made money, it just covered the costs. There might be one for Homecoming. There were questions of other school functions such as a sock hop or dances. Again supervision was the issue. ASB has some school functions/dances planned for this coming year.
- Campus Prayer Walk- Every Friday morning walk the campus with Kendal Bell and pray for the school.
- Magazine Sale- Debbie Sponsler is chairing this event. This is a school wide fundraiser. . The school gets 40% of the sales, which helps run the school. Counting days will be on Oct. 7th and Oct. 16th. Prizes will go out on the last day. Please come to Room 44 from 8 to noon to help on the counting days.
- Senior Prayer Mom’s- Diane Clayton is in charge of this activity. She needs parents who are interested in encouraging a senior for the year with letters, prayers and goodies. You are given information on the senior you adopt.
- Skate Night- Oct 13th Allison Weir and ? will co-chair this event. The prices this year dropped at the rink. Consideration was given to charging $12.00/child, which is an increase of $2 from last year. Any profits will be used for upcoming events for middle school. There is a need for more activities for the middle schoolers. There are 310 students in middle school. A motion was made by Allison Wier to raise the ticket price to $12.00 /child, one price for all, and June Sweeney seconded the motion. A vote was taken and it was approved. There were 2 no votes. Tickets to be sold on Oct. 9th, 10th and 13th during lunch.
- Fall Give Away- Nov. 13th. Jackie Steely and Silva Kardjiian and Maria Barbario will co chair this event. We will be giving away donuts at nutrition.

- Sept. 25th -Magazine sale starts. School wide fundraiser. School receives 40% of sales to go to the operating budget. Prizes will go out on last day.·
- Sept. 25th- Yearbook sales for Middle School and High School.·
- Oct 7th and Oct. 16th- Counting days for Magazine Sale to be held in Room 44 from 8 am to noon. Debbie asked for volunteers to participate.
Additional Business· Since all main board positions should be filled and we are missing a MS VP, an internal board vote was taken via email. Suzy Frankian was nominated and seconded. By email vote, she was elected and accepted the new title and position of Vice President/MS. Debbie Sponslor motioned the nomination and Allison Weir seconded the motion. 10 yes votes. 1 no vote.
Our next regular PTF meeting will be held on Monday, October 6, 2008 at 1:15 p.m. in the HS teacher’s lounge.
