After intensive effort and numerous meetings, Village Christian School
administration has been left with no other decision than to cancel the
2017 high school football season.
VCS has experienced a tough combination of declining interest and a high
number of transfers. As a result, and in looking out for the safety of
our students and their best interests, the current number of participating
student-athletes is simply too low to field a high school team.
We have already begun searching for a new Director of Football to lead
us through this next chapter.
Our football program has been integral in the school’s culture for
decades, and we are committed to doing everything we can to re-establishing
the program’s rich tradition. Understanding that this decision will
affect programs and students campus-wide, we will do everything we can
to add spirited and engaging events to the calendar this fall. Homecoming
activities, including Non-Fire, spirit (dress-up) days, and the Homecoming
Dance will be held as planned.
Thank you to all the families that have come alongside the school and the
football program over the years. Your dedication and commitment to the
student body has had a tremendous impact on generations of Crusaders.
In 2017, we will focus our efforts and coaching staff on developing our
middle school athletes into a competitive program that will lay the foundation
for the future of VCS football. With more than 50 students signed up,
we remain encouraged and believe the community will be experiencing Friday
night football games again soon.
We are so blessed by this supportive community and are devastated by the
sorrowful weight of this decision. We will communicate further updates
as they become available.
