The College Application
The College application has many components. Two important parts of every application are the transcript and test scores which students must send. Some colleges only have an application form, like the CSU application, and others like the UC application require a Personal Statement or essay. Private and out-of-state colleges and universities may additionally require letters of recommendation and others may require an interview, audition or portfolio.

The College Essay/Personal Statement
Perhaps the most anxiety producing part of the college application is the essay. Colleges often think in terms of “personal statement” rather than essay because it’s personal. The college essay is an important way that helps the application come together as a mosaic that tells the story of “who” you are. You can use the college essay as a means to speak in your own voice to the admissions office about your values, what’s important to you and what and how you think. It’s a way for admissions officers to get to know you.
