Special Events

Grandparents Day

Grandparents Day is an annual event when our elementary grandparents come on campus for a visit in their child’s classroom and enjoy a program put on by the students in the auditorium. This special time brings the generations together for a great day of sharing and interaction.

Walk Thru California

WTC is a fourth grade “in-school field trip” that is “an engaging and interactive presentation of standards-based history curriculum through literacy and the arts, games, music, and dramatic activities encourage participation and comprehension of the curriculum."

Book Fair

The Elementary School Book Fair occurs in the spring of the year during the week of Open House. At that time the auditorium is transformed into a book store in which books, different forms of literature, games, and posters, are for sale. During their visit to the book fair parents are invited not only to purchase books for their children but to also purchase books that can become a part of their child’s classroom library. Over the years the book faire has experienced amazing success!

Colonial Day

Colonial Day is a historical hands-on fun-filled day as children come dressed in colonial attire to spend a day back in the 1700's. Throughout the day the students visit different centers where they learn to dip candles, cross-stitch, make colonial signs and hornbooks, write with a quill pen, make a sock doll and pillow, and bake. For lunch the students bring a delicious wholesome basket or bucket of homemade foods. The students learn colonial dances and learn to bow and curtsy as fine ladies and gentlemen. Colonial games are played outdoors and the food they prepare during the day is enjoyed just prior to the end of their day.

Gold Rush Day

Gold Rush Day is a time when fourth- grade students get to experience life in 1849. They spend time as merchants and miners by buying and selling supplies. They sew gold pouches, make yarn dolls, carve soap, and churn butter. They also get to lasso “horses”, play horseshoes, and mine for gold. They come dressed for the occasion too. They also enjoy a miner’s lunch of stew, cornbread, and cookies.

5th Grade Washington D.C. Trip

The Washington D. C. trip is one of the highlights of the 5th grade year. It is an outstanding opportunity for our students to have an interactive experience with their history and social studies curriculum. The events and personalities involved in the founding or our country will come to life as we walk the streets of Williamsburg and the grounds of Mt. Vernon. The scope of the tragedy of Gettysburg will become more real as we reenact some of the engagements of those crucial three days of battle. We will feel the impact of the sacrifices of the men and women of our Armed Forces as we view the various war memorials. We will become more connected to our history and culture as we wander the halls of “American’s Attic”, the Smithsonian Museums. Our students will grow as individuals as they accept greater responsibility for themselves and live in community with their roommates. The D.C. trip is a tremendous way to cap the Village elementary experience.
