Concentrations at Village Christian School

Welcome

The high school years are a time of incredible growth and opportunity for students as they mature into capable individuals who will graduate in four short years and begin the journey into young adulthood. As parents and students enter high school, they do so with an eye toward the finish line: how do I make the most of my high school experience; what is the right college and major for me; will I be accepted; how will I succeed once I am there?

At Village Christian, we intentionally guide students to explore these questions through Concentrations. As students work through their Concentration, they rule out careers (saving time and money in the college years), and rule in careers aligned with their aptitude and giftedness. They gain practical experiences which they can leverage in the college admission process, take ownership of their learning, and focus on their futures after college. These advantages make them the prime candidates that colleges and employers seek.

VCS ASSISTS STUDENTS IN FINDING THEIR SPARK

According to the Department of Education, fewer than 40% of students who enter college each year graduate within four years, with the majority taking six years to earn their degree. At Village Christian, students start the process of finding their spark while in high school. As part of their regular course work, students are placed into one of six Concentrations of their choosing and build their electives and other campus activities around their Concentration. This ensures students maximize their high school years by taking meaningful electives that help focus on potential career paths. Village Christian graduates enter college with the distinct advantage of having begun the exploration of their life's passion, delivering more value to the high school and college years.

CONCENTRATIONS

There are six broad areas of concentrations where students can pursue a more in-depth, hands-on approach. The curriculum schedule allows up to four additional courses, above and beyond the common core curriculum, for students to fill with courses related to areas in which the student has shown an interest and aptitude. Students who complete four courses in a single concentration, and meet other specified requirements, can graduate with a concentration distinction on their diploma, an esteemed accomplishment in the eyes of college recruiters and admissions representatives.
