Elementary Music Classes

The goal of Village Christian School’s Elementary Music Program is to foster a life-long appreciation of music and to provide students with the skills and encouragement to use their musical gifts to glorify God. Students in grades JK through fifth grade attend music class once a week where they learn the fundamentals of singing, music theory, and ensemble playing. There is something for every type of learner in the music room, and lessons often include movement, games, group work, instrument playing, technology, and singing and learning about music from a variety of cultures. We are equipped with a full set of Orff instruments, as well as ukuleles, that are utilized frequently in class and are a favorite activity among the students. In fifth grade, students expand their instrumental skills by also learning to play the recorder. There are several performance opportunities throughout a student’s elementary career including the Grandparents Day performance, the second grade Easter musical, and the Fifth Grade Culmination performance.

Elementary students may also choose to enroll in extracurricular programs for choirstrings, dance, and theater through the Fine Arts Academy.
