Elementary Intermediate Strings
Elementary intermediate strings is a performance group focused on continued teaching of instrumental musical skills to students who have never played a string instrument. Students in intermediate strings must have at least one year experience either in private lessons or in beginning strings. Instruments available to play in beginning strings include violin, viola, cello, and string bass. The class is designed to teach intermediate strings skills including reading music, bowing technique, keeping tempo with conductor, playing in several parts, and intonation. The group plays intermediate level orchestral repertoire including folk music, classical music, and religious pieces. Intermediate strings also participates in an instrumental competition at Disneyland in the spring. No audition is necessary, although proof of experience is required if the student did not participate in beginning strings the previous year. This is a full year class that runs for the entire 2018-2019 school year, from September to May.
