Village Christian Claims NCSAA National Honors
The National Christian School Athletic Association is comprised of more than 230 Christian schools nationwide.
Every year, the organization honors the best Christian athletes across the country. This year, Village Christian School student-athletes received five NCSAA All-American selections, 17 Super-Regional honors, and the National Basketball Player of the Year award, the NCSAA has announced.
Village Christian graduate (Class of 2015) and current USC Trojan Bennie Boatwright took home the country’s top hoops honor after leading the team to its second straight CIF-Southern Section division title. Boatwright averaged 28 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, three steals, and 1.5 blocks this season.
The forward was also named a first-team All-American, joining VCS girls volleyball players Meghan Lacey (second team; Class of 2016), Selby Schnobrich (second team; Class of 2016), and Kyra Banko (third team; Class of 2016) along with baseball standout and current Coastal Carolina Chanticleer Chris Davidson (first team; Class of 2015) to be named All-Americans. All four also received Super-Regional nods.
Lacey finished her junior season with a team-high 423 kills and 347 digs, while Schnobrich amassed 1,186 assists and 72 blocks, and Banko tallied 371 kills and 43 aces – all helping the Crusaders to the CIF-SS Division 2AA finals.
Davidson closed out his high school career with a 10-1 record, including a lights-out 0.88 ERA, nine complete games, and 105 strikeouts en route to the CIF-SS Division 5 semifinals.
Fellow baseball standouts Jesse Hanckel (Class of 2015) and Cameron Wetherby (Class of 2016) were named to the Super-Regional team, while Hanckel earned the same honor for football after breaking nearly every VCS passing record in 2014 as the team’s starting quarterback.
Super-Regional awards also went to Alexis Hamilton (Class of 2016) and Ally Reyes (Class of 2016) in volleyball; Taylor Hughes (Class of 2016) in softball; Hadiqa Nayani (Class of 2016) and Micaela Cacho-Negrete (Class of 2018) in girls basketball; and Jerrick Ahanmisi (Class of 2015), Clifton Powell (Class of 2015), and Kahlil Simplis (Class of 2015) in boys basketball.
“It’s an honor to have the NCSAA recognize our athletes,” said VCS athletic director Kevin Aust. “The NCSAA is the largest Christian athletic association in the United States, and it is amazing to know that Village Christian is producing some of the top Christian athletes. This is a significant accomplishment for these students, and we are proud to have them making a name for themselves and Village Christian across the country.”
