VCS Hires Longtime Coach, Former Professional Player as Head Boys Soccer Coach
Sun Valley, Calif. – Village Christian has hired longtime coach and former Major League Soccer player Felipe Rodriguez as its new head boys soccer coach, the school has announced.
Rodriguez brings 17 years of coaching experience to the Crusaders, including working with the United States Soccer Federation and as the Director of Coaching at both FC Golden State and Crescenta Valley Soccer Club.
“One of the reasons why I’m here is that I love development,” Rodriguez said. “But I also have a winning mentality without breaking development.”
In 1996, he was the youngest starting player for the Colorado Rapids at age 19. He was also a pre-Olympic player with the USSF and signed a professional deal in the Belgium Federation when he was 16.
The former midfielder brings a take-charge mentality to the program and looks forward to assessing players and getting to know VCS families.
“All I expect from my players is 100 percent,” he said. “From there on, wherever God takes us, that’s where we’ll go.”
Rodriguez will host a players’ meeting on Tuesday, September 3 at lunch in the Athletics Field House.
"Felipe is just what our program needs,” said co-Athletic Director Jarod Ebenhack. “He is a proven leader with a complete skill set as both a player and a coach. I am excited for the upcoming season."
