  • Village Christian School is proud to recognize senior Joshua Oh as a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist for the Class of 2022.

To achieve this distinction, Oh qualified through a college entrance exam.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation was established in 1955. For the Class of 2022, the organization received approximately 900,000 entries. Oh is one of 2,100 semifinalists from the state of California and 16,000 nationally (source: Compass Education Group).

“Colleges and universities compete for these students, and this achievement makes Joshua one of the most sought-after students in the nation,” said High School Principal Doug Berry. “Ninety-five percent of semifinalists go on to become finalists. Almost every finalist goes on to receive an academic scholarship of some sort from their chosen school or the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. We are so proud of Joshua and his incredible accomplishments.”

Oh will be notified in the spring if he is a finalist for this prestigious honor. Typically, about half of finalists go on to earn a National Merit Scholarship and the title of “National Merit Scholar.”

“We are very excited for one of our students to be recognized for this very high honor,” Ray Endacott, Associate Head of School for Academic Life.
