Race for Education
February 22, 2018
Dear Elementary School Parents,
This year marks our 15th Annual Race for Education fundraising event. This annual event is full of family fun and is an enormous blessing for our students. The Race allows our school to come together for fellowship, exercise, friendly competition and support of a worthy cause. The Village community outdoes itself every year to raise substantial funds for school programs through the generous donations of their families and friends. Students learn that their efforts at running as many laps as they can translate into very real enrichment to their education. My own father taught me many years ago that you can’t out give God. I am convinced that this will be our most successful race ever and that God will continue to richly bless the efforts of the Village community.
This year, we are excited to partner with Pledgestar, an easy-to-use online platform that will make fundraising and communication much more convenient. Please review the Q & A section for step-by-step registration instructions (or click the link above) and be one of the first to sign up! You are the reason Race is so successful year after year.
We are praying for sunny weather, good runners and the Lord’s blessing on our 15th Race. Thank you for the part you play and your support of Village Christian Elementary School.
2019 RFE GOAL
Innovative Classroom Learning Structures and Planning / Design for our New Elementary Library
We are very excited to be moving forward with continuing to outfit our classrooms for innovative learning and also to start the process of designing a new library for our elementary students. This will include continuing to find the most inventive and original learning tools for the classrooms, meeting the technology needs of our teachers and students, planning and designing our new library, as well as many other improvements to your student’s educational experience here at Village. We are excited to see the increased enthusiasm and engagement of our students as we offer them learning environments that allow for collaborative opportunities, creative endeavors and outside the box thinking.
In previous years, the Race for Education Goal has supported multiple aspects of our STEAM program. New PE equipment, the science lab, Smartboards, computers for teachers, the learning garden, the new chapel sound and lighting systems, and our flex seating classrooms have all been supported by Race funds. To better empower our students as they learn and grow, they will benefit from study in “real world” environments where they can take control of their own learning and grow in many different ways.
The funds provided by the Race for Education sponsored by the Village Christian Elementary Parent Teacher Fellowship have been a huge blessing to our students and teachers. Each year our staff stands in humble awe of the generosity of our families, their relatives and friends. The Race allows our programs to expand, grow and be the very best that they can be. We believe that we cannot only achieve, but exceed, previous years’ fundraisers, with your help and God’s blessings. Join us in helping each and every Village student thrive!
What is the Race for Education?
Race for Education is our annual Elementary jog-a-thon. Students walk or run laps around a 1/6th-mile area for approximately one hour. There is also an obstacle course. Students are divided into teams based on grade level, with grades JK-2 completing their laps in the first race and grades 3-5 completing their laps in the second race.
When does this year's Race take place?
This year’s race is Friday, February 22, 2019, on the VCS campus.
What is the purpose?
This event is a fundraiser that provides a fun way for students to participate in advancing their own education. This program helps VCS Elementary PTF raise funds for needed items that are not typically covered by the school’s general operating budget. Funds from previous Races have paid for the science lab, classroom SMART Boards, new computers, PE equipment, a new sound and light system for the Chapel as well as many of our flex seating opportunities. This year, we are raising money toward continuing to outfit our classrooms for innovative learning and will also start the process of designing a new library for our students.
How does it work?
In order to simplify our fundraising, Race for Education is now utilizing an online platform run by Pledgestar. This allows your child to collect sponsors by sharing a unique weblink. Friends and family can click the link and offer support as a pledge per lap or as a flat donation. Cash and check donations made out to Village Christian School will still be accepted through the Elementary Office.
Who should my student ask to be a sponsor?
Potential sponsors may be family members (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins) living nearby or out of state. Close friends, neighbors, or people you do business with can all be a great source of sponsorship. We ask that students do not solicit strangers (door-to-door solicitation is discouraged).
How can I support the Race?
We encourage parents, family members, and friends to support Race for Education by sponsoring their student with a per-lap or flat donation. We also welcome and encourage volunteers to help prior to Race with some organizational tasks and on the day of the event as well. Please feel free to join your child during their race time.
